Eight houses swept by floods in Nyandarua County

Eight houses were yesterday morning swept away by flash floods at Gachuo village in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County.

This is after river Turasha burst its banks following the heavy rains pounding the area.

Two cows are said to have also been swept away during the incident, Nyandarua county commissioner Boaz Cherutich said.

He noted that the occupants of the houses that were swept by the floods have now been forced to shift to higher grounds.

"Heavy rains have for the last three days pounded the area forcing the river to burst its banks. Unfortunately, it swept some houses," he said.

He noted that no casualties were reported.

Mr. Cherutich said that the affected were now in dire need of necessities such as tents, blankets, and food.

"We call upon people to come and assist the families that have been affected as we look for a permanent solution to this disaster" he noted.
