Man’s phone bursts into flames at Likoni ferry

A male passenger’s phone burst into flames at the MV Harambee ferry in Likoni on Tuesday 29 October at 9.00am.

According to Kenya Ferry services, the passenger’s phone battery burst into flames when he tried to open the cover.

No casualties were reported during the morning incident as the man is said to have thrown the phone into the water.


Police have already launched investigations into the matter.

“At 0900hrs on board Mv Harambee, a male passenger's faulty phone battery burst into flames as he opened its cover, our staff & Police onboard responded. Police investigations are ongoing,” said the Likoni Ferry services.


The incident comes one month after the tragic death of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu whose car slipped off and drowned at the Likoni ferry channel.
