DCI detectives arrest notorious Mpesa fraudster

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, October 19, 2019, arrested a suspect linked to various cases of Mpesa fraud.

According to the DCI, the suspect worked with a group of security guards manning various different ATMs.

“Mr. Robert Mwaura Mwita- a suspect linked to various cases of MPESA FRAUD in which members of the public have been defrauded MILLIONS of shillings was arrested yesterday by Detectives after an assiduous operation,” Said the DCI.


The suspect, Robert Mwaura Mwita, reportedly recruited the officers and sent them secret withdrawal codes.

“The suspect has been working in cahoot with security guards manning various ATMs whom he recruited to withdraw money after sending them withdrawal secret code” added the DCI.

The guards took an agreed portion and sent the rest to the suspect.

Detectives were able to catch one of the suspects in the act and later the prime suspect.

Investigations showed that two security guards, Stanley Nyakundi and Godfrey Masinde Simiyu had in September alone sent over Sh2.2million to the prime suspect.

The suspects are in lawful custody and will be arraigned on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, to answer to appropriate charges.
