Mucheru replaces Kochalle with his widow

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru (pictured) has revoked the reappointment of the late Robert Kochalle and replaced him with his widow Charity of the Kenya Film and Classification Board.

Yesterday, CS Mucheru announced the reappointment of Kochalle, who died on May 29, 2018, while serving as a director of the film board.

It was unclear under which circumstances Mucheru made the appointment, but Kenyans were outraged with the gazette notice that had gone viral.

The board chairman, Ezekiel Mutua, defended the CS's decision, saying the reappointment was an error.

“Small issue being blown out of proportion. The Board presented the notification to the Ministry for replacement and inadvertently he was reappointed. It was not CS Mucheru's mistake at all as the conversation started when KFCB was under the Ministry of Sports and Culture,” Mutua responded in a tweet.

CS Mucheru has now released another gazette notice that rectified the error and replaced Kochalle with his widow alongside two other appointees.

Charity has been appointed alongside Nareah Okanga and Gathoni Kung’u.

The mixup came days after Kenyans expressed disappointment towards the appointment of Mary Wambui as the chair of the National Employment Authority.

The agency is tasked with salvaging the youth unemployment crisis in the country.

Wambui was appointed by Labour CS Ukuru Yattan through a gazette notice.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who introduced the bill that birthed the agency, said he will file a petition to stop her appointment, claiming she is old and unqualified.
