CS Mucheru now replaces dead man with his widow

Just hours after ICT CS Joe Mucheru faced the wrath of Kenyans for appointing a dead person to the Kenya Film Classification Board, he has rectified the blunder by appointing his widow Charity Kochalle.

Earlier, through a gazette notice, the CS had appointed the late Kochalle despite the fact that he died in 2018.

Kenyans online were outraged by the appointment as some suspected this was a scheme to misuse taxpayers’ money.

KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua, however, rubbished those claims saying it was just an error that should not be blown out of proportion.

“Small issue being blown out of proportion. The Board presented the notification to the Ministry for replacement and inadvertently he was reappointed.

“It was not CS Mucheru's mistake at all as the conversation started when KFCB was under the Ministry of Sports & Culture,” said Mutua.

Kochalle’s widow Charity will now sit on the board.

In recent days there has been an uproar over state appointments and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja particularly took issue with the appointment of Mary Wambui to chair the National Employment Authority.

Through a statement to newsrooms, Sakaja stated that Wambui’s appointment goes against the provisions of Section 10 (2) of the NEA act.

“There was a dream that informed the creation of the National Employment Authority. The appointment of Hon. Mary Wambui goes against the provisions of Section 10(2) of the NEA act.

“I have asked her to politely decline this appointment. Further, I have instructed lawyers to file a petition to quash this appointment,” wrote Sakaja.
