Four suspects gunned down in botched robbery on Juja Road

Four suspected thugs were yesterday morning shot dead in a botched robbery incident along Juja Road, Nairobi.

Police and witnesses said the suspects had tried to attack and rob a motorist of his car and valuables.

The incident happened yesterday at about 4 am. A victim told police he was waiting for his gate to be opened when armed men ordered him to surrender his valuables. They then demanded to take over his car.

According to Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo, the victim raised the alarm alerting police who were on patrol. He was hit on the head and sustained an injury.

The officers rushed to the scene and shot dead four suspects. Two homemade pistols with two bullets were found on the men, police said.

Officers also recovered four knives from the slain suspects and that two others managed to escape on foot.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary.

The robbery victim was injured in the head and was attended to at a nearby hospital, police said.

Shot on Southern By-pass

This comes in the wake of an ongoing investigation to identify bodies of two men who were shot dead and a third one injured when gunmen struck at two vehicles along the Southern by-pass, Nairobi on Saturday night.

Police said they recovered an identification card bearing the name of Charles Mwangi Waithaka from one of the cars.

The investigators are looking for the registered owners of the two cars that were involved in the shooting.

Two of the victims were driving in the same car while a third man who survived with serious gunshot wounds was in a separate car.

About 500 metres from the scene, the lone passenger was found in a thicket.

Police claimed to have found separate number plates in the boot of the second vehicle, which were found to be fake.

The man was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was admitted with gunshot wounds in the chest and stomach.

Police say they are investigating the motive of the shooting.
