Gachanja wins Magical Kenya club nite tourney in Mombasa

Home club George Gachanja carded an excellent 70 nett  to emerge the overall winner of the 2019 Magical Kenya club nite golf tournament played at the Sea-link par 71 Mombasa golf course in Mombasa County at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 29, Gachanja’s victory came after playing two level pars at the par four-thirteenth and the par five-seventeenth holes over mixed bogey shots in the rest of both nines to rule the course and win an exclusive full board complimentary of two nights’ accommodation for two at the Mombasa’s White Sands Beach Resort and Spa hotel.

“It was a tough game, the wind from the nearby Indian Ocean was strong but I managed and am happy for the victory,” said Gachanja.

Kenya Tourism Board under their Magical Kenya Brand and Diani’s Swahili Beach Hotel sponsored the day long 18 holes’ tourney that attracted 100 golfers from the home club, guests and staffs with valid handicaps.

Club mate handicap 18 Paul Munyao was the man winner on 72 nett while the Club’s Assistant Captain Gregory Koech playing off handicap 7 was third placed on 74 nett and the best gross winner on 81 gross.

Veteran Coast Lady golfer Florence Karimi playing off handicap 14 claimed the Lady’s prize on 80 nett and wins a night’s accommodation for two at Swahili Beach in South Coast of Mombasa.

Thika Sports club’s handicap 14 Paul Kamau carded a three over par 74 gross to emerge the best gross winner while Royal Nairobi’s handicap 28 Jonathan Koinange on 75 nett won Best Staff prize with Nyali’s Andrew Wahome on 33 points winning in the Junior catergory.

At Vet Lab course on Saturday, Kenya Railway’s Samuel Njoroge claimed the day one leader on 142 gross (76-66) after two rounds in the 2019 Kabete open Championships going to the final day two third rounds yesterday.

Nyali’s Daniel Nduva on 145 gross (75-70) and Vet Lab’s Jack Mwangi Mureithi were second and third respectively in the tourney which is one of the ongoing  2019 calendar of event for the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Kenya Amateur Golf 2019 Championship series.

At Sigona course, the August 2019 monthly mug played on Saturday was won by handicap 24 Ramesh Patel on 67 nett.

Handicap 24 Gakuo Ndirangu on 67 nett and handicap 18 Kiran Patel on 68 nett were the Runners up and third placed respectively.
