Ex-clergyman charged with defiling Form Two girl in Homa Bay

A former Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church elder has been charged in court for allegedly defiling a Form Two girl in Homa Bay county.

Tobias Koga appeared before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga for allegedly having carnal knowledge of the 17-year-old girl.

The court heard that he defiled her on diverse dates between December 2018 and July 26, 2019, at Wahambla Village in East Kanyada Location in Homa Bay contrary to sexual offences act.

The court was told that the accused person intentionally, unlawfully and indecently touched the minor.

According to area Chief John Akado, the clergyman lured the student by sending her money through M-Pesa.

“We looked at the student’s phone and discovered glaring evidence to demonstrate the man was in sexual relationship with her. There were romantic messages which proved their sexual affair,” Akado said.

Koga was arrested in Homa Bay town on Wednesday in an operation led by area OCPD Zamadani Mkondo.

Koga used to serve as a church elder some time back in the county before he was relieved and given other duties to perform in the church.

The clergyman pleaded for leniency with the court on grounds that he has children and a wife who depend on him for a living.

He was released on a bond of Sh100, 000.

The case will be heard on October 22, 2019.
