Police stray bullet kills boy in Kasarani, Nairobi

Police are investigating an incident in which a three-year-old boy was shot dead by a stray bullet in Maziwa area, Kasarani, Nairobi.

The boy was in their house when the bullet struck, killing him on Sunday evening.

The officers involved in the shooting claim they were shooting in the air to scare a mob that was chasing and baying for their blood.

The officers had gone to the area to effect an arrest when a mob turned on them and started to chase them.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo said an investigation into the incident has been launched.

Meanwhile, a section of Multi-Media University students blocked Magadi Road on Monday morning to protest the killing of fellow student in a hit and run incident.

Police had to use teargas canisters to disperse the group from the busy road that had been blocked for hours. This affected traffic flow on the busy road.

The students accused some public service vehicle operators using the Ongata Rongai route of being reckless.

“They even overcharge us and drop us at wrong bus stops,” shouted one student as they addressed the media.

Police said the hit and run incident that happened last week is under probe.

“The search for the car involved in the incident is active and police are reviewing various CCTV footages on the route.”
