Indigenous communities living in forests in three North Rift counties will be counted during the ongoing population census, a State official has said.

The move comes in the wake of complaints by members of the indigenous Sengwer community living in parts of Embobut Forest who raised concerns that they might be left out in the national population census.

Livestock and Fisheries Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai (pictured) gave the assurance to the indigenous community living in Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia and West Pokot counties.

The PS was speaking in Iten during a tour to assess the progress of the census on Tuesday evening.
