Police in Homa Bay County have launched investigations into the death of a man who was murdered and his body dumped inside a probox.

The 35-year-old man (name withheld) was allegedly assaulted to death and his body damped in the boot of the car, parked in a thicket at Wiga village, Homa Bay Sub County.

Police found a bag with an ATM card, a voter’s card and some court documents believed to have belonged to the deceased inside the vehicle.

A blood stained stone was also found inside the car. The deceased’s face was bungled beyond recognition.

Area assistant chief Andrew Okach said they found the deceased eyes gouged out and his naked body mutilated.

“He sustained deep cuts on the head and bruises on various body parts,” Okach said.

Okach said he was informed of the incident by a security guard who saw the probox abandoned in the thicket.

He suspected that the man might have been killed elsewhere before being dumped.

Residents led by Magret Obola and Joseph Obuya urged the government to establish a police post in the area to fight insecurity.

“As residents, we had given a two-acre piece of land for government to set up a police post to boost security,” Obuya said.

The County Police Commander Esther Seroney said they had launched investigations to ascertain the cause of death.

The body was taken to Homa Bay County Referral hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
