30 wards to gain from Sh1.5 billion fund

Governor Mohammed Abdi Mohamud (pictured) has initiated a Sh1.5 billion ward development venture to benefit the 30 wards.

In the programme, each of the wards will receive Sh25 million to implement crucial projects.

The target projects include sinking of bore holes, building classrooms, especially for the Early Childhood Development centres, as well as constructing of health centres.

“We are alive to the fact that many of our people are in need of these vital development initiatives, which have huge impacts in their lives,” said Mohamud.

He added: “We allow the wards to spend over Sh6 million per project because some crucial facilities such as the health centres require a larger allocation."

The governor condemned delay in disbursement of funds to counties that, he said, had affected the rate and pace of development in Wajir, even as the county embarked on digital collection of revenue.

He said 487 projects worth Sh1.5 billion had been implemented in the county in the last three years.
