Locals attack police post after criminals kill one person in Kisii

Angry residents in Magena, Bomachoge Borabu Kisii have attacked a police post in the area after criminals killed one person yesterday night.

The more than 500 youths stormed the police post and vandalized the station accusing police of laxity.

Police officers who were on duty were forced to seek reinforcement from the nearby Kiango GSU camp and surrounding police stations.

By 7pm Saturday, locals had still barricaded the Kisii-Kilgiris road and engaged police in running battles.

Area Assistant County Commissioner Mwele Ngao said security personnel were investigating the killing.

"Our people should remain calm and allow police to investigate the issue. Eventually, the culprits will be arrested," said Ngao.

The deceased's body was found more than 500 meters from the station on Saturday morning. Security officers said the body was dragged to the scene by unknown people.

According to the locals, the area has had a number of unresolved murder cases.

"We want a meeting to solve the issues that affect us. Insecurity in this area is worrying and action must be taken as soon as possible," said James Ombui.
