Judge orders probe on lawyer Cliff Ombeta ailment claim

A judge has asked the prosecution to investigate what ails lawyer Cliff Ombeta (pictured), who has caused the delay of a murder case of rights lawyer Willy Kimani and two others.

Mr Ombeta is the defence lawyer in the case where five police officers have been charged with the murder of Kimani, his client Josephat Mwendwa and driver Joseph Muiruri.

When the matter went for hearing yesterday, the court was informed that Ombeta was still unwell.

The defence then sought for mention instead of hearing.

A report tabled showed that he was taken ill on Sunday night and went to Nairobi Hospital, where he was given painkillers and eye medication.

The doctor also recommended three days of rest.
