Police in Usenge, Bondo Sub-County have arrested six students at Usenge High School while in possession of a jerrican of petrol which the police believe was to be used in burning the school.

Confirming the incident, Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Wafula said the school administration was tipped-off before an inspection was swiftly conducted in the dormitories where the items were found on Saturday evening.

The police boss stated that after finding the items, the school administration called the police who came and picked the six students to Usenge Police Station where they have been locked up as investigations continue into the matter.

“We are planning to arraign them once we are through with the investigations in order to face charges of planning to commit arson," said Wafula, adding that they were also found with a matchbox.

Last year, the school was closed after two dormitories were destroyed by fire whose cause is yet to be established.

Elsewhere, police have launched a manhunt for a driver who allegedly hit a 20-year-old man along Siaya-Bondo road.

According to Nyawita Sub-Location Assistant Chief Ayub Ogolla, who hails from Ang’eya Village was found dead yesterday.

“The victim comes from Gem sub-county and has been living with a relative here. We are appealing to members of the public to share information that would help to arrest the suspected hit and run driver,” said Ogolla.
