Student faces murder charge after stabbing colleague over college girlfriend

A post-Morten report has revealed that the murdered Shamberere Technical Training College student had a single stab wound on the chest.

According to documents submitted in court, Kakamega Consultant pathologist Dixon Mchana formed the opinion that the cause of death was due to stab wound following an assault.

Investigations revealed that the deceased, Dennis Muhindi had a confrontation with one Dennis Mango over a girl the two were ‘hunting’.

Court documents indicate that Muhindi bumped on a text message the accused had sent to Purity Mbula prompting a confrontation.

Police said that an angered Muhindi, 24, invited the accused at the school’s administration block for a talk. It was during this ‘talk’ that the two are alleged to have engaged in a fight over the said girl.

Police said the deceased held a knife, and attempted to stab Mango, who allegedly wrestled the knife out of his hands before stabbing him on the chest.   Police said that the deceased fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

This prompted other students who were nearby to attack the accused injuring him.

Mango was reportedly saved from the mob by officers form Kabras Police Station who arrived at the scene moments later.

Muhindi, a fourth year National Youth Service (NYS) student was confirmed dead upon arrival at Malava sub-county Hospital.

Angry students rioted leading to the indefinite closure of the institution with the students baying for Mango’s blood.

Mango has been ordered to answer to murder charges at the High Court after tests conducted at Kakamega County General Hospital indicated he is mentally stable.

The suspect who has been police custody since his arrest on the same evening is expected to take plea on July 9.
