Health

The weekend has just ended and you are now experiencing the consequence of letting your friends drag you out to the club on a Sunday. No need to wallow in regret, you need to fix yourself up because that Monday status meeting does not care if you are hungover. Head to the kitchen and prepare one of the following:

1.Ginger tea

Nausea is usually the biggest nuisance when it comes to hangovers, make yourself some ginger tea. Ginger is a tried and tested treatment for nausea and that's why it is considered as one of the best home remedies for a hangover. Ginger gives fast relief by assisting in the digestion of alcohol, thus soothing the stomach. According to Dr M.P. Mani, an ayurvedic medicine specialist, you can also add some orange juice to the mixture and half a teaspoon of honey. The concoction, he says, helps stabilise blood sugar, which is usually low after alcohol consumption.

2.Tomato juice

Tomato juice contains fructose, a type of sugar that helps your body metabolise alcohol faster. Dehydration caused due to a hangover can be relieved by taking freshly prepared tomato juice. According to Dr Mani, the sour taste of tomatoes has a great effect in curing a hangover. You can prepare tomato juice and add fresh lemon juice to it for fast relief.

3. Honey

Honey is one of the simplest and readily available cure. It has potent powers to neutralise the harmful effects of alcohol, thanks to the presence of fructose.

Dr Mani suggests that taking 3-4 teaspoons of honey dissolved in warm water after an interval of one hour helps in digesting alcohol. You can also add lemon juice to this concoction for even better results. However, the quantity of honey may be increased if the hangover is severe.

4. Lemon

Lemon juice or lemon tea helps to relieve hangovers. Lemon is gentle enough that it can be taken with upset stomach. According to Dr  Mani, one should prepare lemon-tea, but do not add sugar to it. Lemon tea detoxifies the stomach of unwanted materials. On the other hand, fresh lemon juice prepared in cold water also gives fast relief.

5. Peppermint

Peppermint can be prepared as a tea or chewed whole it as this relaxes the body. Peppermint also helps to relieve gas. According to Dr Mani, to cure a hangover, eat 3-5 leaves of peppermint. To make peppermint tea, pour one cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of the dried herb or 5-10 leaves of fresh peppermint.

Remember to drink lots of fluids. Also, don’t forget to eat something as your body needs the energy. You are now ready for your Monday status meeting.
