Gladys Wanga warns politicians on sacco loan pay off

Woman Representative Gladys Wanga (pictured) has asked politicians to stop inciting residents against repaying some Sh16 million they owe a sacco.

Homa County Women Sacco, started four years ago, is facing financial difficulties because of the unserviced loans.

Worse, loan defaulters are seeking protection from political players in the county to avoid repaying their debts.

Ms Wanga, the sacco patron now fears that the defaulters and politicians intend to wreck the organisation with a capacity of lending members more than Sh100m.

“There is a family which owes the Sacco Sh1.3m, but has refused to repay. Some of them have defaulted repayments for three years and want the politicians to shield them,” said Wanga.

She now wants the politicians to stop interfering with the running of the sacco especially when it undertakes recovery measures from the defaulters

She instead requested the politicians to use their influence in advising the defaulters to pay up.

“Failure to repay a loan denies innocent members from getting loans,” said Wanga accusing defaulters of perpetrating financial impunity.

She went on: “It is wrong for a politician to call the sacco management with intention of protecting defaulters.”

The sacco manager Oliver Odhiambo said sensitisation on loan repayment was on.
