Nyandarua government to wipe out quacks in the agricultural sector

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia addressing the media during a closed door meeting of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i with Governors on matters of National Development.

Governor Francis Kimemia has vowed to rid the agriculture and health sector of quacks.

He said there were many people pretending to offer professional services in the two sectors yet they lacked relevant certificates.

Some of the cheats, he said, were working as veterinary and clinical officers.

He promised to work with relevant professional bodies and authorities to make sure that this came to an end.

“Such people are hindering development by offering poor services to the people,” he said.

He spoke during a meeting with farmers at Shamata area in Ndaragwa sub-county yesterday.

The governor underscored his administration's commitment to improve the livestock sector, saying it was one of the backbones of the region's economic growth.

He said Nyandarua’s dominance in the sub-sector over the years was largely due to the ability of indigenous farmers to fend off major livestock infections.

“The sub-sector is currently operating at 30 per cent of its potential, with a population of 346,430 cows," he said.
