Eight minors in hospital after eating poisonous plant

Eight minors in hospital after eating poisonous plant.

Eight children have been hospitalised after they ate a poisonous plant.

The minors aged between four and 11 years were taken to the Naivasha Hospital on Wednesday night complaining of headaches and dizziness.

It is suspected that the children ate vegetables mixed with the common thorn apple weed, which leaves its victims in a state of delirium.

A witness, James Kimani, said the children, who live in two neighbouring houses in Maraigushu village, had eaten supper when they started complaining of pain.

Mr Kimani said some of the children became violent, forcing neighbours to tie them with ropes before taking them to hospital. “We suspect that their mothers unknowingly mixed vegetables with the poisonous plant, which caused the minors to become sick,” he said.

A medic at the hospital said the children had been treated and they were in stable condition.

“The minors were brought in suffering from delirium and restlessness, but they were stabilised," the medic said.
