MP queried on assault of blogger

Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo has recorded a statement at a police station over an alleged assault on a Kisumu-based blogger.

The legislator, who spent the better part of Tuesday afternoon at Kisumu Central Police Station, has been accused of attacking Maurice Oduor over a Facebook post.

According to the blogger, the post was about the Gem CDF, which is currently under probe by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

There was drama at the police station as a group of youth heckled the MP when he arrived to record the statement.

Mr Oduor claims that after he published the post on his Facebook page, he started receiving threats from people claiming to be the MP’s supporters.

“They told me the MP was looking for me. I tried to call the MP several times but I could not reach him,” said Oduor.

In a video that has gone viral, the MP is seen walking towards the blogger who had sat in the company of his friends. The MP, who is dressed in an orange shirt, is seen slapping the blogger.

County Commander Benson Maweu confirmed that a report had been made at the police station over the incident.
