Erick Onyono Nyakundi accused of killing a police officer Hellen Kwamboka who is said to be his girlfriend arraigned at Makadara Court.

A man suspected to have killed his girlfriend, a police officer attached to Parliament, was yesterday arraigned.

Erick Onyono Nyakundi, 38, appeared before Makadara Chief Magistrate Hestone Nyaga after her was arrested on the Kenyan-Ugandan border.

Detectives trailed him for a week to his hideout even after he discarded the handset he was using for a new one.

The case's investigation officer Gerald Kamuyu asked court to grant him 10 days to detain Nyakundi in order to complete the murder probe in which Nyakundi is labeled "person of interest".

Murdered Kwamboka

Nyakundi, according to the affidavit, is suspected to have murdered his girlfriend Hellen Kwamboka at her house in Umoja Estate in Kamukunji sub-county on May 24.

Kamuyu told court the suspect locked Kwamboka inside her house after killing her and fled. He was arrested on June 1.

He said Nyakundi had been in contact with his relatives as he hatched a scheme to run to Uganda.

The officer's body found lying on a pool of blood on the bed with a deep cut on her head and blood smeared all over the house.

“We need to take his blood samples for DNA, as there was a possibility that the victim was also sexually abused,” pleaded Kamuyu.

The court granted the officer 10 days considering the circumstances in which the suspect was arrested.

The matter will be mentioned on June 12.
