Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ has condemned tension which has led to death of one person over scramble for fishing space in Lake Victoria.

The fisherman, Clinton Ouma, died in Lake Victoria on Thursday evening during a demonstration against operations of an investor who undertakes cage fish farming along Lake Victoria beaches in Suba South Sub-county.

The fishermen protested against the investor whom they accused of denying them space for fishing by erecting cages in 315 hectares of water in the lake.

Kajwang’ has warned that more deaths can be experienced if the fishermen's grievances are not heard.

“It is unfortunate that scramble for fishing grounds in Lake Victoria has led to death. This matter needs urgent attention by county government to ensure fishermen get their rights,” said Kajwang’.

Speaking at Alero beach during inauguration of the County Beach Management Network Chairperson Edward Oremo as a Head of State Commendation, Kajwang’ called on the county government to rescind an agreement that allowed the investor to cast cages in the lake.
