Two police officers charged for aiding bhang peddlers escape custody

Two Administration Police Constables attached to Bureti Police station have been arraigned in court to face charges of aiding drug peddlers to escape custody.

John Kiget and Wesley Kitur were charged that on March 4 at Cheplanget village in Bureti constituency, they jointly aided two suspects to escape from lawful custody.

The two were arrested for being in possession of 382 rolls of bhang worth Sh382, 000.

The suspects, appearing before Kericho Senior Resident Magistrate George Kimanga, denied that they aided the narcotic suspects to escape contrary to section 124(a) of the penal code.

While opposing the bail application for the suspects, State prosecutor said the charges against the officers were grave.

“The court however, granted each of the accused a bond of Sh200, 000 with a surety of similar amount.”

The hearing of the case has been set for May 24.
