Babu bashed for mentioning Ruto’s name in gold scam

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Monday stated that he knew a client whom Deputy President William Ruto sold fake gold to.

This came just days after a gold scam was exposed by Kenyan authorities, leading to the arrest of several key suspects including businessman Jared Otieno.

“I know of one client whom the Deputy President sold fake gold to. Dossier coming out soon.

“Hatupendi ujinga,” wrote Babu.

His allegations were, however, not met kindly by the online community who urged him to ‘stop playing defense’ after NASA leader Raila Odinga’s name was also mentioned.

James Mwadeghu: “As the new breed of politicians we expect a lot from you, but you have turned out to be a replica of many who came before you, only using information as bargaining chips to secure selfish needs.”

Amedo Shair: “Diversion tactics won't help. @Wetangulam told @TheODMparty brigade, it will be messy, noisy and it will have casualties. I guess @Babu_Owino has forgotten too soon.”

Leah Chege: “We Kenyans have come to know what dirty games you play behind our backs...it saddens to know that our leaders will be responsible for the downfall of this country for all that has been built for 50+yrs..we are sick of this blame games n all these is to fool Kenyans.”

Barmasa Barmasa: “We never heard his name on that audio clip.”

John Webootsa: “The lowest our politicians have gone and are still sinking deep. It's we don't need them. We gave the right job to the wrong people. Looks like campus drama.”

Samuel Kihika: “ukishikwa shikika, wacha kusingizia wengine.. Let the suspects deal with their own troubles.”

A recording that was widely shared online last week had mentioned the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Odinga but DPP Noordin Haji rubbished it saying the clip was alarming and malicious.

Haji added that he had received complaints from victims who said the person behind the scam had been invoking the President's name in dealings and conversations.

“Having realised that they were conned on the availability of the gold, and the misleading knowledge and involvement of the President, the former Prime Minister and CS Matiang’i, they resolved to file a report with Kenyan authorities and cooperate with law enforcement in unearthing the under-dealings,” said the DPP.
