Stars players must show their worth

Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne has named his squad to take part in next month’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cairo, Egypt. Kenyan fans now have huge expectations on the new outfit. As it were, the Frenchman stuck with majority of the players who did duty for him during the qualifiers.

Of the 30 players picked, 23 will eventually travel to Cairo for the three-week tournament. It is now upon them to carry the country’s flag high. A lot will be expected of them considering that it has been 15 years since Harambee Stars played at this stage. It has been a disappointing period for Kenyan football. It’s now time for restoring lost glory.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the government have provided a conducive environment for them to train. They are also well funded. A three-week training camp in France has been planned for the players and they have also received close to Sh1 million each in bonuses with a promise of more.

More importantly, doing well in the tournament is an opportunity for the players to be scouted by European clubs which will change their lives forever if they get a chance to sign mega deals. All the players must therefore take this opportunity with both hands and give their best. Also, it may be the last time for a good number of the players to play at this level and therefore everything should count for them.
