Madaraka Day fete venue almost ready

The National Celebrations Committee, which is organising this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, has reassured that the venue of the fete will be ready in a week's time.

The committee’s national chairperson, who is also Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, led the team to inspect the venue at the weekend. He said works at the stadium were about 80 per cent complete.

“We have come on a fact-finding mission to see how the venue preparation is progressing and we must say that we are truly satisfied and the contractor has assured us that the project will be complete by May 20,” said the PS.

On February 25, this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta, after meeting with Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku and his Narok counterpart Samuel Tunai, agreed to move this year’s celebrations to Narok after it was found that Kajiado had no stadium. Mr Tunai, who recently announced free entry to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, said the honour of hosting the event was one of the milestone achievements that the county has witnessed under Jubilee government.
