A man hacked to death a neighbour he suspected of having an affair with his wife in Mogotio, Baringo County.

He later assaulted his pregnant wife on Thursday evening on claims that she was having a love affair with the 19-year-old man.

The brutal beatings left the woman with severe injuries.

The 25-year-old woman is fighting for her life at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

She was unable to speak to The Standard during a visit to the hospital as she was in deep pain.

The hospital in charge Dr Joseph Mburu said the woman's five-month pregnancy was terminated.

At the hospital, she was provided with antibiotics and later induced to remove the foetus that had died in the uterus.

“The woman was received in a very critical condition. She had facial injuries, swollen hands, legs and lost her pregnancy,” said Mburu.

Mogotio DCI Otieno Nyamburu said the suspect accused of assaulting the woman is being held at Mogotio Police Station.

Mr Nyamburu said the suspect was arrested on Friday afternoon in connection to the death of Edwin Kipkemboi.

The probe

“We had arrested the man in relation to death of Kipkemboi and we are also conducting investigations on assault case,” said Nyamburu.

The investigating boss said the suspect would be charged with murder and assault.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect who was armed with a machete and a club attacked the woman at their home and later proceeded to attack Kipkemboi.

The suspect had visited Kipkemboi's home to inquire on his whereabouts, but did not find him. He later met him on his way out and hacked him to death.
