28-year-old man commits suicide

Police are investigating circumstances that led to the death of a matatu driver said to have committed suicide at Mamboleo area in Kisumu.

Charles Otieno, 28 was found dangling on a rope in his house at 3 pm on Tuesday with neighbors claiming that he was heard talking to some people in the morning before he was found dead in his house.

His father Jacob Okoth said his son was an ambitious man who had no suicidal tendencies asking the police to fasten investigations and reveal the true cause of his death.

“I spoke to my son in the morning and told me of his plan to start a new business.  He has our sole breadwinner,” said Okoth.

However, the witnesses at the crime scene decried the slow response of the police from securing the scene of the crime.

“His body has been in the house for a long time, the police arrived four hours later,” said Jane Awour a witness.

His Aunt Dorine Atieno said his nephew was a jovial man and his death is a shock to the entire family who depended on him.

Atieno said the family demands immediate answers to why he had committed suicide since he left no suicide note.

“We demand to know the truth, why he suddenly killed himself,” wept Atieno.

This comes amid reports of the rising cases of suicide among the youth with drugs and alcohol abuse being the major contributor.

But the OCPD Kisumu East Ezekiel Singoei said the crime scene was secured and police are gathering all the evidence and circumstances under which the man died.

“We are recording statements and launched the investigations into the matter,” said Singoei.
