Slain Moi University student Ivy Wangechi scored straight 'A's in her KCSE exams

Slain Moi University student Ivy Wangechi.

By the end of this year, Ivy Wangechi would have been Dr. Ivy Wangechi Githui.

Sadly, that will never happen. Family and friends laid Ivy to rest today at her family's home in Othaya, Nyeri County.

Her life was cut short one week ago after a man identified as Naftali Kinuthia hacked her to death in broad daylight at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Ivy isn't your average girl. She was an A student. Her O-level certificate shows she scored straight As in her KCSE exams which she undertook in the year 2011. She was a student at Alliance Girls high school.

Her scores were as follows:

English A (minus)

Kiswahili A (Plain)

Mathematics A (Plain)

Biology A (Plain)

Physics A (Plain)

Chemistry A (Plain)

Christian Religious Education A (Plain)

French A (Plain)

That qualified her for an admission to study medicine at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Below is her KCSE Certificate:

Hundreds of mourners thronged Ivy Wangechi’s parent's home in Nyeri County to pay their last tributes.

Leaders present at the burial ceremony included Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Othaya MP Gichuki Mugambi, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, and and Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami.

On Wednesday, activists and women leaders held a candlelit vigil at the Nyeri Central Business District in honour of Wangechi and condemned the rise in violence against women.
