Kisii MCA vow to impeach corrupt officers despite bribery allegations

The county assembly has vowed to deal with corrupt officials.

Last week, MCAs formed a committee to investigate senior officers for alleged abuse of office, gross misconduct, incompetence and violation of the Constitution.

The committee, to be chaired by Gesusu MCA Benson Ongeri, is required to table a report in the next 10 days.

Sensi MCA Paul Agwenyi tabled a motion which was seconded by nominated MCA Eric Janganya seeking the sacking of Finance executive, Finance Chief Officer, head of Accounting and Treasury.

“Service delivery has been hampered through incompetence and gross violation of the Constitution. The public should stop accusing us of taking bribes to shield the corrupt. They have stolen enough from the public," said Mr Angwenyi.

Mr Ongeri told The Standard on phone that the sittings would proceed as scheduled.

“The process is ongoing and the public should be assured that they will get a well report.”

Chief Officers who spoke to The Standard in confidence, said they were never consulted when making payments yet they were required to answer to audit queries.

“We are tired of being mistreated and undermined," said an officer.

Other than bias in payments for works done, the officers are also accused of favouritism in signing of imprest forms.

According to the imprests register, the amount sought during the financial year 2017/18 was Sh557 million. However, the cash wired to the executive employees’ bank accounts was Sh711 million.
