Three people, among them a policeman who allegedly stole construction materials from Northern Water Collector Tunnel (NWCT) in Murang'a, have been charged with robbery with violence.

Isilas Kipkoech Koskei, an AP officer attached to Kigumo, together with Peter Kilele and Ezekiel Maina, were today charged before Kigumo Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi.

Kilele faced an alternative count of being in possession of a mobile phone that was robbed from Julius Wanyama Yohana, a security guard at the Maire NWCT construction site.

Kilele was allegedly found with the stolen mobile phone in Embu County.

They denied the charges and were released on Sh1 million bond with a surety of the same amount pending the hearing of the case on July 24.

In the same court, two people were separately charged with incest.

Patrick Kang’ethe and George Ndung’u were charged with defiling their nieces in Kahumbu and Gakuyu villages in Kigumo respectively.

Kang’ethe, 59, denied that between August last year and April 5, he defiled the minor.

Ndung’u, in his 20s, pleaded guilty to defiling the minor between 2014 and this month.

The magistrate ordered that the suspect be taken for mental assessment.

Last year, Murang’a High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo condemned increased incidents of defilement.
