Operations at Kisii University's Migori Campus were yesterday affected after part-time lecturers downed their tools to push for their salary arrears.

According to the lecturers' spokesperson Fredrick Ojode, the arrears amounting to Sh19.3 million have accumulated over the past four years.

The over 28 lecturers accused the university of running down the institution, and then refusing to pay them.

“In 2014, Kisii University shut down Kehancha and Isebania campuses," said Mr Ojode.

No solution

Ojode said on April 24 last year, they met with deans from four campuses at the institution, and the Finance Department in order to settle the payment issue. To date, no solution has been reached.

They are now calling on the Commission of University Education to investigate the institution.

While defending his institution, Migori Campus Director Omare Mong’are said the allegations raised by the part-time lecturers were false.

In a phone interview with The Standard, Dr Mong'are said the lecturers have been paid all their dues up to 2016.

He noted that the institution was planning to pay the remaining arrears. Mong'are said operations at the campus were running smoothly.
