Man hacks wife, baby and commits suicide in Kilifi

A man hacked his wife and baby to death then committed suicide at his house at Bate village, Magarini Sub County.

Dagamra chief Daniel Kiti said 30-year-old Azan Charo Kadenge used a knife to slit the throat of his 27-year-old wife Mapenzi Charo Ngala and their four-month-old baby.

“I received a call from a resident and I rushed here, unfortunately the man had committed the acts,” he said.

Residents and the family of the man said Kadenge moved to his new home after a disagreement with his father after a fight over smoking bhang.

“This is really shocking, the wife had just returned from her parents’ home and she was spotted in the morning with her husband in their compound,” a resident said.

They added that there was no noise from the house and that they discovered the incident after a neighbor visited.

“I found the wife and the baby in a pool of blood with their throats slit. The man was hanging from the roof,” said a second villager.

Kadenge’s uncle Kalume Kadenge said he smoked a lot of bhang and beat up his wife often.

He said he learnt about the death of his children and grandchild through his wife.

“Kadenge quarrelled with his father and ran away from home,” Kalume said.

He added that he had warned Kadenge against bhang smoking, but he wouldn’t listen.

Garashi MCA Peter Ziro condemned the incident and urged the youth to avoid drugs.

“It’s so painful to lose a young family like this,” Ziro said.
