Former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo has moved to court to challenge the cancellation of his firearm certificate.

Through lawyer Willis Evans, Mbogo says that on February 5, 2019, the Firearms Licensing Board informed him of the decision to confiscate his four weapons and bullets.

Mbogo moved to the High Court today on a certificate of urgency to have his four guns returned, arguing that his life is in danger. He wants the court to compel the board to return the guns and his firearm certificate.

“The grant leave should operate as stay to stop the implementation of the impugned decision,” he said in court documents.

He says that the decision of the board is prejudicial, poses a threat to his security and that it was not properly communicated.

Mbogo says he is a law-abiding citizen who is rightfully exercising his rights that are enshrined in the Constitution to legally acquire firearms.

“My client applied for the licence of the firearms and was issued with the certificate which has been lawfully renewed since acquisition,” said Evans.

Mbogo says that no criminal proceedings have been brought against him in any court relating to misuse of firearms and as such, the detention of his firearms was illegal and exposed him to potential harm.
