Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko led his team to Kenyatta National Hospital and cleared the medical bill of a woman and her baby amounting to Sh56, 937.

Sonko’s deed comes a day after the father tried to smuggle his daughter out of the hospital using a carrier bag.

The baby’s father Boniface Murage was stopped by the security guards at the hospital gate after they opened his bag and discovered the baby.

He was later arrested and pleaded guilty to charges leveled against him on Monday.

His lawyer however, pleaded for leniency before Magistrate Caroline Nzibe arguing that his client was genuinely unable to pay the bill.

The court has handed Bonface Murage a three-month suspended sentence meaning he will be free but on State watch for the said period of time and is not expected to commit any other offence.
