The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Friday evening announced the arrest of an Australian national who was found switching off CCTV cameras in a Nairobi apartment.
Residents of the said apartment had complained of attempted burglary in recent days and investigations are underway to determine those behind the act.
“Benjamin Gsull~an #Australian national who was found covering & switching off CCTV cameras in an apartment within Nrb was today arrested.
"Police had earlier received complaints of attempted housebreaking & were carrying out investigations when they discovered him in the footage,” read a tweet by the DCI.
CCTV footage often come in handy in solving cases of crime and terrorism and have been heavily used by police in recent months to solve a number of cases.
Last week, the DCI appealed to members of the public with information on a man suspected to have been behind a blast in the Nairobi CBD to report to the nearest police station.
In the footage, a man can be seen holding luggage while walking near the scene of the blast.
A newspaper vendor and a handcart pusher were injured in the explosion that occurred last month.
The vendor had been given a parcel to transport in his cart which exploded minutes after the owner had excused himself.
