Tension in JKUAT as student stabbed to death

Kenya University Students Organization (KUSO) chairman Antony Manyara address students at JKUAT during a protest on Friday.

Tension hit Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) following the mysterious death of a First Year student killed by unknown attackers.

Tabitha Muthoni Mwangi, a Supplies Chain Management student at the College of Human Resource Development was stabbed to death on her way back to her residence, located outside the university, at around 8pm on Thursday.

Tabitha was in the company of a female friend, who escaped unhurt after the attack. Police in Juja spent the better part of yesterday in running battles with students from the university, who wanted to make their way to Thika Super Highway to cause chaos.

Police had to use teargas canisters to restrain the students from making their way into the busy highway. Vice Chancellor Victoria Ngumi said the two students were accosted by two young men who emerged from a nearby thicket; and demanded all they were carrying.

“The thugs then stabbed Tabitha on the left side near the heart before taking off with money and other valuables,” said Prof Ngumi.
