Kinyanjui and ward representatives end row on Sh8b projects

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and ward representatives have agreed to bury the hatchet and work together to speed up implementation of projects.

The ward representatives had been blaming the governor for the slow pace of implementation of Sh8 billion projects factored in the 2018/2019 budget.

During a meeting at the county chambers last Friday, Mr Kinyanjui (pictured) admitted that his administration was facing challenges in implementing development projects, but promised that procurement processes would be fast-tracked.

“We had a challenge in procurement after the introduction of E-procurement system in management of finances and procurement by the national treasury,” he said.

Engineers outsourced

The governor and the ward representatives agreed to have additional structural and civil engineers outsourced to speed up preparations of the bills of quantities which were identified as the major cause for project delays.

After the meeting, Leader of Majority Moses Ndungu said the governor had yielded to their demand to restructure the Boresha Barabara programme that was rolled out last year.

“Each ward will be receiving road construction machinery for two weeks per quarter of every financial year instead of the current module where the machinery is sent to wards on priority basis,” he said.
