Chief nursing injuries after an attack by a police sergeant

A policeman is under investigation for allegedly roughing up an administrator who found him in the company of other revelers.

The officer attached to Karinga administration police camp in Kigumo assaulted Chief Michael Njehia of Kinyona location in Kigumo Subcounty after he found him with nine others in a bar after midnight.

During the Friday night incident, Njehia was on patrol before he stumbled on a bar at Karinga Market, checking where revelers were holed up contrary to the law.

The revelers walked out leaving the chief at the mercy of the policeman who slapped him severally and left him bleeding.

The residents at the market centre said the chief found the revelers in an outlet, where nine managed to escape through the back door.

Murang'a County Commissioner Mohammed Barre said the matter is under probe after the chief reported at Kigumo police station.

Barre said upon completion, the officer will be disciplined and charged.

“The officer is out on a Sh5,000 police bond awaiting completion of investigations,” said Barre.

Barre warned bar operators that action will be taken against those flouting operation rules.

"The policemen should support chiefs and their assistants efforts to deal with rogue bar owners," said the county commissioner.

Last year, some chiefs accused officers attached to their locations of being compromised by bar operators.
