Detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations at the Kisii Police Station have arrested a Ugandan man for rebranding different alcohol brands in Nyatieko village.

More than 30 crates of different brands of beer were confiscated in the Saturday morning raid.

According to police the main suspect, who is at large, has been importing alcohol from Uganda and and rebranding them with fake Kenya Bureau of Standard stamps.

The detectives told the Standard they will arrest more suspects who could be importing such goods into the country.

"The suspect has been evading tax and we suspect he is a major supplier of such alcohol to a number of distributors in Kisii town," said a source within the DCI.

Kisii Central DCIO Martin Korongo and Central Police Station OCS Eliud Kimwele could not divulge more information but promised to carry out further investigations.

A few weeks ago Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i issued a warning to alcohol distributors.

"We are going to engage a higher gear in dealing with individuals authorised goods from our neighbouring countries."
