Uganda: United Nations investigating sudden increase in FGM cases

The United Nations yesterday said it had sent a fact-finding team to eastern Uganda to investigate a “surge” in the number of women and girls undergoing female genital mutilation (FGM).

The probe by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) comes after Ugandan media reported this week that armed groups had been forcefully conducting FGM in Kween district near the eastern border with Kenya.
