Two die on the spot after wall collapses in Malava sub-county

Two people were killed after a wall they were demolishing collapsed on them at Shikokhwe Village in Malava sub-county.

Four others escaped death in the Tuesday evening incidence.

One of the survivors, Angatia Webo, said the victims, Timoth Samson, 33, and Moi John, 25, were pushing a section of the wall from outside the house when it suddenly came down crumbling.

“I had invited them to help me bring down the wall and while we were inside the house, they decided to push it from outside. We just saw the wall collapse. Unfortunately, they did not survive,” said Mr Webo.

He said the two had been at the site a day earlier to remove iron sheets from the house, and just returned to complete the work yesterday.

Sombre mood

A sombre mood engulfed the village, as locals joined hands in retrieving the bodies of the two from the rubble.

Area chief Simon Aswani, who joined the locals in removing the bodies from the rubble, said the accident could have been avoided if the victims had been more careful.

“It is sad that we have lost young men in a tragedy that should not have happened,” Mr Aswani said.

The bodies were taken to the Malava Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
