A magistrate has allowed Mombasa police to hold a man and woman police claim are prime suspects in the December 12, 2018 murder of former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto for a fortnight.

The arrest of Joseph Gitonga and Florence Mwanza in a house in Kisauni estate on Sunday makes five the number of suspects detained after Kamto's killing.

Three other suspects were detained by the court in Shanzu after police, allegedly, traced them by cellphone and linked them to the murder.

Gitonga was arrested by detectives in a house at Kwa Bulo area in Kisauni.

They were led to the place by one suspect found with Kamto's mobile phone.

During the raid the police recovered a pistol with a telescope suspected to have been used by the suspects during the murder.

The police also arrested a woman believed to be an accomplice of the criminals believed to have been involved in a string of illegal activities in Mombasa.

Mwanza was arrested in the same house where Gitonga was hiding.

They appeared in court and were remanded in police custody for 14 days.

Gitonga and Mwanza are believed to be the last batch of suspects linked to the murder.

Mombasa Resident Magistrate Erick Odhiambo ordered the two suspects to be remanded at Port police station.

During the raid at Gitonga’s hideout police recovered 10 mobile phones, 15 bullets and other valuables believed to have been stolen from tourists.
