The family of a former Trans Mara councillor has threatened to stop the burial of a former MP over an alleged Sh2 million debt.

James Ngodia's family was yesterday preparing to seek court orders halting the burial of former Bomachoge MP Zephaniah Nyang'wara, who died last week.

Julius Ngodia, the administrator of his father's estate, said they had given Nyang'wara's family until tomorrow to repay the money. “My late father got into an agreement with Nyang'wara in 2000 for the former MP to sell him a residential building in Kilgoris town, but he demanded an extra Sh1.5 million,” Julius told The Standard.

He said his father had paid an initial agreed sum of Sh2 million and when he refused to pay the additional amount, Nyang'wara refused to transfer the property's ownership. In 2005, he is said to have sold the building to Moses Nkepen for Sh3.5 million.

Julius said his father, who died in 2017, did not want to take Nyang'wara to court because he believed the latter would honour their agreement.

Teresa Kerubo, one of Nyang'wara's wives, said she was not aware that the building had been sold twice. She said they were ready to meet anyone with a complaint.
