Bukalama Primary School in Matayos where a storm left a trail of destruction last week had a low turnout of pupils yesterday.

The school has a population of over 1,000 children.

The school head teacher Steven Okello said they were not in a position to repair the classrooms due to lack of funds.

According to Mr Okello, the low turnout of the pupils was a blessing in disguise.

“We are appealing to well-wishers to come and help us in repairing the classrooms,” said Okello. His sentiment was echoed by school’s chairman Michael Okumu.

Meanwhile, a spot check by The Standard revealed that public schools reopened yesterday but few pupils showed up.
