Kangundo Member of Parliament Fabian Muli Kyule will spend his weekend behind bars after he was arrested on Saturday for allegedly drunk driving.

The lawmaker was among 46 motorists arrested in Nairobi as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) steped up measures to reduce the number of road carnage during the festive season.

They are detained at Parklands Police Station.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the MP crushed into a wall of a club as he attempted to drive off.

He added that ‘totally sloshed’ MP was aggressive to the guards who rushed to assist him and the police who arrested him.

On Monday, seven motorists had their driving licences suspended for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

A statement from the authority said the drivers’ licences will be suspended for between one to two years and that they will not be expected to drive during the period of suspension.

“We hope that suspending their licences will send a warning and strong message to those who are tempted to drink and drive. Our teams are currently supporting the traffic police in enhancing road safety during this festive season,” read the statement from NTSA.
