Come on Gor Mahia, make Kenyans proud

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are on the verge of making Kenyan football fans proud again. A win for K’Ogalo in Nigeria, the theatre of African football, will be victory for Kenya in the CAF group stages today. It’s no doubt that Gor Mahia are a formidable force in the Kenyan Premier League, winning the title 17 times, but the Kenyan side should now up their game to join the elite of African club football. Their 3-1 triumph against Lobi Stars of Nigeria last Sunday, was testimony that K’Ogalo are ready to pounce on the Sh56 million CAF group stages pay out. However, the Kenyan champions must tame aggression from the Nigerians who also dream of progress. Gor Mahia must avoid conceding any goal in the first half or entire match and will be at pole position if they can get an away goal.

They must be ready to absorb the pressure and contain the West Africans by all means. Gor remains the only Kenyan team to win a continental event, the Caf Confederation Cup, then known as Mandela Cup, in 1987. But since then, the Kenyan giants have failed to progress to the group stages. In two consecutive years, Gor have flopped in the first round of this competition, and clinching a point in Enugu today, will be a perfect Christmas gift not only for K’Ogalo faithful, but also to all Kenyan football lovers. Go go Gor!
