One dead, seven injured in road accident along Nakuru-Eldoret highway

One person has died while seven others are recuperating at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital after they were involved in an accident at Ngata area along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

The accident that occurred near the Sachangwan black spot involved a lorry and a bus which was headed to Nairobi from Butere in Kakamega County.

“Few casualties have been rushed to the hospital for treatment. The bus was coming from Butere heading to Nairobi when it collided with the tanker from the opposite direction,” Nakuru OCPD Samuel Obara said.

According to the passengers, the bus was trying to overtake when it collided with the tanker.

“The driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when it suddenly collided with the tanker. The tanker tried to swerve off but it got into a ditch and as a result of the impact, got stuck,” John Andae, a passenger said.

The driver of the bus was rushed to hospital after suffering serious leg injuries.

The OCPD, however, urged drivers to be careful on the roads during the heavy Christmas season traffic.
