Moi discharged from Nairobi hospital

 Retired President Daniel arap Moi

Retired President Daniel arap Moi was yesterday discharged from Nairobi Hospital after doctors ascertained he was regaining full health. The former President was admitted to the facility last Thursday for a routine medical checkup.

In a statement, Moi's communication office said the former Head of State was allowed to go home.

His physician David Silverstein said doctors had keenly examined and looked after him, paying attention to a complaint of a flu that had been triggered by cold weather.

“… Doctors... closely observed the former president... and treated him for a bout of flu, which he blamed on chilly weather. The former president was responding well to treatment but needed time to rest,” his office said.

The retired President’s state was confirmed by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who said the patriarch was doing well, "thanks to Kenyans who prayed for his healing".

The lawmaker spoke during the 14th Kabarak University graduation ceremony, which he presided over as the university pro-chancellor. He was stepping in for the former President, who is the chancellor.

“Mzee Moi was admitted to hospital, but he is getting better and we are confident God is taking care of him because of your prayers. We are very hopeful that in the next few days he will be back with us at home,” said Gideon. He delivered the re tired president's message of goodwill to the people. He called on graduates to uphold values of integrity and professionalism and be mindful of the welfare of others.
